Meniere’s disease, also known as Meniere’s syndrome, is an extreme form of vertigo, a condition of fluctuating balance and imbalance. It is thought to be caused by vitamin deficiency, which is a medical term for a lack of certain vitamins and minerals in the body.
Most of us can be deficient in these vitamins, and vitamin deficiency is one of the leading contributing causes of vertigo. Vitamin deficiency is also thought to contribute to the dizziness associated with Menieres disease.
Meniere’s disease is often thought of as a condition that can be caused by alcohol. We don’t know for sure, but the possibility exists that alcohol itself can be the cause. Alcohol is a depressant and, when combined with the condition of vertigo, it can increase the dizziness.
In other words, if you’re dizzy, you’re not necessarily alcohol-dependent. Maybe you’ve had a few drinks and now you’re dizzy, but not because of alcohol. But as the saying goes, you’re as drunk as the next guy.
This is true. Many of us have had a few too many drinks and become dizzy for awhile, and many of us have vertigo – a common problem that causes us to be dizzy and nauseous. But there are other reasons why we have vertigo. Some of these may include: We may have a certain type of nerve disease (which can cause vertigo) or we may have a genetic condition that causes vertigo.
So what are the most common causes of vertigo? It can also be caused by a vitamin deficiency. This is called Meniere’s disease, and it’s a collection of diseases caused by a decrease or lack of the vitamin biotin in the inner ear. Other drugs that cause vertigo in some people include alcohol, and anti-convulsants like valium or lorazepam.
I can’t think of a single vitamin that causes vertigo but I can think of a few. Biotin is a vitamin that helps your body absorb calcium. It’s also a blood pressure medication. Vitamin A may cause some people to have vertigo. And vitamin D may cause some people to have vertigo.
I know I don’t have a single case of meniere’s disease, but it’s still worth mentioning that there are some vitamin deficiencies that you can pick up from a vitamin store and can prevent from progressing to serious disease. These include vitamin A and C deficiencies, vitamin B6 and D deficiencies, and vitamin E deficiency.
Vitamin A may cause a few people to have vertigo, but it can also prevent vertigo. Vitamin A is also a blood pressure medication. As a blood pressure medication it can also cause some people to have vertigo.
Vitamin C deficiencies may cause a few people to have night blindness and vertigo, but it can also prevent vertigo. Vitamin C is also important for nerve regeneration.
