I’ll be the first to admit that some of our readers have very cold and/or chronic coughs. If you have, I’d recommend you try a “little remedy” or a few of the recipes below.
My own cough is a lot more like a cold and than a cough but you can certainly follow our suggestions. You’ve probably noticed I’ve mentioned gingerroot a few times, but it’s worth mentioning again. Ginger has been used for centuries for its anti-cough properties, and it’s also been used as a tonic for people with asthma and allergies.
If you have a chronic and or cold, make sure you are using the right kind of ginger. You can use the standard dried powder, but you can also use fresh gingerroot in a tea, and the tea can be made without any sugar. The best way to make sure you are using fresh ginger is to cut off a small piece with a kitchen knife. Then, take a small spoonful and rub a bit of this on your chest and throat.
This is a good one to use when you know you are going to be taking a lot of medicine. The ginger can help with the inflammation that comes with taking certain medications and can also be used as a preventative, as it does help with colds and the flu.
We all know how important it is to take your medicine regularly, but many people don’t realize how important it is to just stay hydrated and get a good night’s sleep. We were pleasantly surprised to learn that this ingredient also helps with an upset stomach, but also helps with coughs, sinus infections, and colds. So just make sure you have fresh gingerroot on hand.
