That’s pretty much where the story begins. When you first come to this island you are treated to a beautiful view of the sun’s rays filtering down into the ocean. You are also treated to the sound of a large wave hitting the shore, and you begin to notice the island itself is sinking into the ocean. You are then taken to a hospital to be treated by one of the doctors there, Mike, who has a strange accent.
I asked Mike how he knew what to say to which of the doctors, but he just told me what he thinks his accent should be, and I think it is the first time I really heard anything that sounded like I was speaking English.
Mike makes a good point, that it is important to get that accent down, but I think the point is more that people who don’t know they’re in the Caribbean (or the South Pacific for that matter) shouldn’t try to speak English. If you do, you’ll probably end up sounding like a native Caribbean speaker.

I agree. There are a lot of non-native speakers who also get stuck in a time loop with native speakers who are talking in English.

The point I’m getting at here is that when you try and communicate in English, you end up communicating in English. If you don’t know, then you need to go back and read the whole thing again.
